Why is Yellow Colour Mandatory?
Colour coding in gas pipe systems is critical for safety. In Turkey and Europe (TS EN 1555), yellow colour is mandatory for PE pipes carrying natural gas. This allows operators to distinguish gas pipes from other utility lines (blue: water, orange: energy/telecom) during excavation.
PE80 or PE100?
- PE80: Standard choice for gas lines. More flexible, ideal for small and medium diameters.
- PE100: Can be used for high pressure and large diameters but gas certification is required separately.
Installation Rules
- Minimum laying depth: 100 cm in traffic areas, 60 cm outside traffic areas
- Warning tape must be laid (yellow plastic strip)
- Joints only by EF or butt fusion welding — must be leak-tight
- Pressure test mandatory (1.5 × operating pressure, minimum 4 hours)
